This fully CG animated film was screened during Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg’s Keynote presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 in Las Vegas.
The film explores Ericsson’s rich heritage and achievements that makes them the company they are today.
The film is split into three eras starting with fixed line (the past), mobile (the present) and The Networked Society (the future). Each era was designed in slightly different style by Reinier Flaes (Onesize) to symbolise key moments in Ericsson history, but we ensured it was always an stylistic evolution from the previous era.
The concept was inspired by traditional dioramas, where someone could look through a small aperture and see another world beyond. We wanted to the film to move seamlessly from space to space, as if we were progressing through time.
Once concept was agreed, style frames were created and once approved, an animatic was developed. The animatic was the most important part of the process as we used it to match timings, framings and angles exactly with the final film.
The film was completed in a total of 6 weeks and was output at 3500px x 1050px for the big screen. A 16×9 version was also created post the event.
